Oh! The other day I got a treat... I got to hear a newer 2-51 running... they make the damn oddest "warble" ... o.O
That's the best way I can explain the sound... Maybe it's the new Turbo's they're using? But at low rpm (idle) it warbles. (and blows smoke circles... much to my entertainment value) warble *puff* warble *puff* kinda... rahraHRAHRAH*puff* r..ra..rahraHRAHRAHRAH! *puff* They used an 8V one to blow the Mall's well head out (had a locomotive aircompressor on it's head, interestingly enough) Earlier this past week... god it was a beauty... all shiny and pretty. the "FM | ALCO" badge on it looks odd though. I ... hadn't expected it to be so big, is the really only thing I can say... Or so loud... when the pressure in the well started to build up, and they throttled it up... there was the most satisfying combination of low pitch rumble, and high pitch turbo scream too... (but it still made the "tika-taka-tikatTING" noise that I've heard in every recording of alco engines both old and new at higher RPMs... Odd.
