Well, I'm working my poor paws to the nub. :=/

Yesterday I called in sick at McD's. I wasn't sick, but I didn't fel like going in. I had not missed a scheduled day up to that point. That's over 6 months without missing a day of work. I had gone home early on some days, but I still went in. Nothing was said about me missing yesterday.

I thought to myself, "I'll just make up the hours on Wed and Fri, when I work longer anyway." Boy, I didn't know how correct that assumption would be.

I walk in this morning (5a) and find that we have no-one in the grill till 8a and the overnight guy went home at 7a. Well, I'm Debbie's (the store manager) "utility man". So I was put on the grill for a bit. Never mind that I had to clean the lot, wash the windows, etc. At about 8:30a she released me to clean the lot. I looked at the time and said, "Debbie, don't you think I better start on the (fry) vats? Look at the time." Her response, "Yeah, you better."

What I had to do was drain 3 vats totally and throw the old shortening out. The other two vats had to be drained, and put into the "back line" vats. The vats where the shortening is re-used are the vats that get the freshest shortening for the fries, and the back line is where the fish and chicken are fried. So the shortening can be re-used there with no problem.

The problem was, that I had to have this done by 11a. That is drain, and clean all 5 vats. Transfer the old shortening, filter the shortening that was re-used and put new shortening in the front line. It seems easy, until you take into account the time for pumping the shortening, walking to where we dispose of the old shortening, etc.
Also the back line has to be up to temp by no later than 10:30a so they can start cooking the fish and chicken. The fresh shortening takes at least a half hour to get to temp. I lucked out and everything was ready on time. The final two front vats came up to temp right at 11a, just in time for the first batch of fries. :=3
I don't want to do that again.

Well, after I took my break, I was ready to head back out to the lot. No such luck. They were getting swamped with nobody that was really effective on the grill. I was again called into duty as a grill person. I didn't leave there until about 2:45p so I could put out the trash and go home at 3p or so.

Now for the interesting part. We are having an inspection tomorrow, and Debbie wants the lot spotless. That was my job today, or that's what I was supposed to do, as well as clean up the stock room. What to do? Well, this lion is going back into work at 9p so I can clean up the stock room and do the parking lot at night. It is the only way everything can get done. And yes I have to be back at work tomorrow morning, although at 6a instead of my normal 5a. We also have another inspection on Friday. I guess I'll really make up my time.

Couple all those hours with the hours I worked on Sunday at the McDonald's LPGA Kid's Classic (I had a blast :=3 ), I'm going to be raking in the overtime. :=3

Erf! Just make sure you get you some rest! Even if you can take the pounding, it's not a good thing that you should! -TG

I recently had a similar day, though I (thankfully) have no grease vats to change out.

And I am jealous of your potential earnings this week. My last paycheck was almost $200 shorter than I estimated it should be. Where are all my hours?!?
