Well, my training went well.

Thursday I was the only person in the classes. ;=3 Today there were three other guys, but they only had to review and retake a test.

How well did I do you may wonder. Pretty darn well.

With my RRing background they skimmed over a lot of stuff saying I know it already, but they did teach the stuff that was more Amtrak based.

Out of the three tests I took I got an 85 on RWP (Roadway Workers Protection) and aced both the first aid and the AMT-2 (for working near the overhead wires and 3rd rail) tests. :=3

It was fun talking to the instructors as we traded "war stories". That, more than anything I guess, showed them I knew what the RR'ing business was about. I think I did shock the one instructor, a bit, when he started talking about the AMT-2 stuff. Sure, I've never worked around it, but living where I do, the Philly area, and being a railfan one tends to pick up knowledge about the overhead wires and what to do and what not to do. :=3

I've filled out most of my paperwork, including my W4, so I'm officially an Amtrak employee. BTW, I do get paid for my training, though I don't know about holding a week back. One thing I thought about after arriving at Groton was they never told me when to report to NYC. Thursday I called my contact in NYC and asked. I was startled by his answer: 7a.

To arrive at that hour I will have to get up at 4a, be at Philly by 5:10a to catch a train so I'd be in NYC by 6:40a. 8=0

Good thing is that I will get done 3ish and I can be home by 6:00 or so.

This means no real late nights for me during the week. I can catch some sleep on the way up to NYC, however.

So, this little adventure was really neat and will be repeated yearly for retraining, though it might be held in Philly.

BTW, I finally got to try Tim Horton's coffee. It's ok, but it's no Wawa. :=3

EDIT: I wore my Kenwood baseball cap, which some may remember from MFM and MFF, with the "Furry Forever" pin on it. No-one even blinked. To them it was just another pin. I also had my "Operation Lifesaver" pin on and that got a few smiles and nods.

Also [livejournal.com profile] the_gneech I wore my "The Watering Hole" shirt up and to class, though no-one said anything. I was going to wear my "You know you want me." shirt, but I decided against it as I didn't know, before I left, how some people might feel about the text. I didn't want to get into trouble for unintended "Harassment" before I got hired. :=/

ooh, so far, so good!

Where is there a Tim Horton's in the area? I need to keep it in mind if I ever need to lure Canadians to the area...

Welcome to the pre-dawn club. Your schedule even beats mine by 30 minutes. I can "sleep in" until 04:30.

Oh, dear. Yes, in some situations, the "You know you want me" text can bring an end to your career. Remember, you are still on probation. I've seen some bizarre situations where even the smallest imagined infraction brings you up to a review board. We had a secretary years back, you almost had to avert your eyes, lest you gaze upon her, and she would then think you're undressing her in your mind. The "sexual harassment" squad just eats this stuff up. Besides, that shirt is too good to wear to work.

Aaaah! It's an American that knows the one weakness of Canadians!

Glad things are going well, even if a little shakey.
