The LEDs I am using in my project are not 0603 cases. They are actually twice the size, even bigger than 0805s.

However, I do see 0603s in the portables I fix.

And now to prove my insanity, I hereby post a picture of a LED I'm using along with a 0603 with leads soldered to it. Yes, it does work, though it is not lit in this pic.

I will admit it took a bit of time and skill to get those leads on the 0603. It is not something I would want to do day in and day out. The trick was to use a piece of vinyl electrical tape to hold the LED in place as I soldered the leads.

Considering the quality of my vision these days, I think I would use my swing arm stereo microscope if I was doing the same thing.

Where are you getting those, and for how much?

They'd be perfect for my Halloween props.

I got the larger LEDs from Newark. For 10-99 they are 14.1 cents each. If you need more info let me know.

Te smaller one came from a scrap keyboard from a portable and I would not suggest using them in the way I have it. It is way to hard to solder those leads on. I only did it to prove to myself that I could do it.
