is because I could call her up and ask her very technical medical questions, like the one I thought of today while driving to the train station.

Do people with Alzheimer's know that they used to be able to do things they can't do, like knowing the route home?

I don't think that is how it works, though there may be times that glimmer of that knowledge peeks through.

So, if you know that you used to be able to do something, but forgotten how you probably do not have Alzheimer's, but something else, or you just plain forgot due to not doing it for a while.
