Remembering
Sep. 11th, 2003 10:08 amThis was posted in our Space RP/novel message board.
It is written by one of the authors, Kamau, and deals with this date.
The timeline is 1000+ years in Earth's future, where humans are a distant memory.
------------
Narhari walked the deck of the newly completed patrol craft. It was the
first of several to be built so the Chufelis would be better prepared to
defend against any threat that might endanger them. Suddenly he halts and
let's out a gasp. He taps his commlink and calls to Outpost One.
"Outpost One, this is Narhari," he called. "What is our status?"
"We are in standard operations," came the reply. "Do you have a problem?"
"Uncertain. Can you make a sensor sweep of the area?"
"Sweep has been completed," Reported the command center moments later.
"Nothing showing on the grid."
"Understood," Narhari said as he concentrated on the images he had received.
"I'll investigate from my end. Narhari out."
After a moment more the liger tapped his commlink once again.
"Narhari to LK," he called.
"LK here," the lion replied.
"Is there anything significant about this date?" the Sarangar officer asked.
"Any great events in your history? A large loss of life? Some great
battle?"
On the Lion's Den's bridge LK looked at Altaica and the other members. The
tigress slid her paws across her terminal and passed it on to LK. He nodded
slowly and sighed as he replied.
"It is in our ancient history," he told the liger. "There was a surprise
attack with a number of casualties on this day on the north east coast of
North America. But that was centuries ago. How did you know?"
"I felt the moment," explained the liger. "For those who are like ourselves
we can feel moments of great death and tragedy. In a sense the moment never
passes but continues to be present each year."
"As well it should be," LK replied. "Such tragedies need to be remembered
and learned from. A wise person from our history once said that if we fail
to learn from history we are destined to repeat it."
"That is a universal truth," the liger replied. "May we all remember our
history and grow wiser from it."

As this human/lion bows his head in remembrance of those who died on this date, and everyone who has died in the cause of keeping freedom alive.
