For sale?

I am in the midst of cleaning up the hobby workshop. Horrors! The thought of a clean room and work table. The reason is that I'm unable to find things without digging through piles of stuff.

I had a thought as I looked around the room and in the the adjoining basement, where I have shelves of buildings and other things; "I have too much crap!

So the possibility exists that I may sell 99.9% of my model railroading stuff, save for a few select pieces. This would include buildings and everything in one lot. I'm not going to piece meal it out. Those that have been to my den know how much stuff I have. Would benefit a club. I would consider selling the different scales separately. I have H-O, of course, N, Z, S and O scale equipment. The one piece of G gauge I would keep, as it was a gift from [livejournal.com profile] smrgol_t_kirin, and is a P-RSL Budd RDC.

Thoughts on what I should do?

Downsizing? Getting out of the hobby? Just feeling overwhelmed?
The market is soft right now. You won't get much for your stuff unless you piecemeal it, and even then you'll lose big.

Stick it out until circumstances change.

Overwhelmed.

Seeing all the stuff in boxes not doing anything is getting pretty depressing. :={

Same here. I'll be retiring and moving in less than a year, and my boxes have been sitting for some time. No home layout since the 20th century.
Circumstances and fortunes change.
Ride it out.

If you had the time, I'd suggest locating a children's hospital somewhere and building a layout for them. The club idea is probably your best bet.

I don't know what I'm going to do with mine. Most of it is Athearn shake the box stuff that I over-weathered with paint. The engines are probably totally seized by now.

The engines are probably okay.

Unless they got wet a few drops of lube should make them run like new. Too bad you don't live closer, else I could give them a once over.

If you're ever in the neighbourhood, let me know ;) I know one of them stopped working for reasons unknown, but the other F7 and the SW7 should still be salvageable.

I'll probably buy all-new if I do decide to start over. I played kind of rough with mine. I'd need a new F7 shell; I wanted to put the railing kit in and didn't want to wait to do it properly so I went after it with a dental pick and gouged some nasty holes in it.

Well, Cambridge is only an eight hour drive from my place. :=3

I'd have to check about border crossing, though. I think my NJ DL will work, but I'm not sure. I don't have a passport.

I have a couple spare F7 shells laying about. :=3

Yeah, it's passport-only both ways unless you have an enhanced licence, I think. Maybe one day!

I might take you up on the offer of those shells. Are they Athearn compatible?

I'd love to get back into the hobby again, but don't really have the space or finances for it at the moment. Need to find a good small space HO layout template to use as well; I'm probably going to be an apartment dweller to the end, so basement-busting empires are out XD

I would hope so, as they are Athearn shells. :=3
