On Monday and yesterday I went to the Gloucester County Social Services. I missed an interview call on them on the first, due to my cell phone being shut off. On the second I got the packet telling me that they were going to call me on the first. :=/

After a bit of confusion at the office on Monday, about whether or not I had been seen, I had my initial interview and was told to come back the next day for a more in depth interview about GA, General Assistance.

That interview went smoothly and I was told I have to report tomorrow at 1:30p at another office for the first of four "Employment Training" sessions if I want to get my GA. The sessions run once a week for a total of 4 weeks. I should be getting my SNAP card (food stamps) any day, so that is a load off of my mind. Certain people will need to send me a letter directed to the social services about something, which I will post in a friends only post later.

Otherwise everything is looking up, except that I need to raise $216 by Friday to keep the car loan company happy. I'm almost 60 days late with my Feb. payment and if I can make that payment by Friday then my next payment won't be until May and I should have some breathing room then.

To those that have helped and are continuing to help me, until I can get myself on firm ground again, you have my undying and eternal gratitude.

As much as I would like to I don't think it would be a good idea.

I need to conserve fuel and money as much as possible. Sorry.

I'm so glad to hear that things are looking better for you. Beyond living costs do they provide you with any form of support in finding new work?

That what was today's "class" was about. It was an orientation on how to fill out the forms we have to supply every week, on Tuesdays, until May 5th. Hopefully I'll have a job by then.

If not, on May 6th they send the paperwork back to social services so I can get GA.

Every week I have to have 21 lines filled in of places I applied for work. :=/

Some can be by phone or internet, by they prefer face-to-face contacts.

Did they give you any practical advice on improving your chances of finding work, succeeding at applications and interviews? That was the problem I had during the six months after I was made redundant. Nobody, NOBODY at all was willing to give me any advice on finding work in the 21st century where everything is now done via the Internet. Back in the 1990's when I had just finished college and couldnt find work there was an organisation called the Commonwealth Employment Service whose sole purpose was just that, but they were disbanded by the Howard government. Not that it matters as they were pretty much useless anyhow... Jobseekers routinely referred to them as The CESpit.

Is that 21 individual places? or can the notation for one place span several lines?

Well, I guess that's how they are to be sure you (generic you, not specific) are actively seeking employment, not trying to mooch off the system.
