Man Dumps Baby Onto Highway During Police Chase

Police in Wisconsin say they were stunned when a man they were pursuing dumped a baby in a baby seat out of his car and onto a busy highway.

The dramatic scene was caught on a police cruiser's video.

Officers were following a man who had taken his girlfriend's baby during a domestic dispute.

The driver is seen slowing down abruptly, then opening his car door. Police were expecting the suspect to take off on foot.

Instead, he slid a baby seat out onto the highway and took off again.

On the tape, a police cruiser stops just a few feet from the car seat. Police found the baby, still strapped into the seat, unharmed.

The driver eventually collided with another car. He later died of injuries from that crash.

All I have to say is he had it coming. :=/

Can you say "D'oh!"

Police Say Pa. Man Charged with DUI Shows Up Drunk for Hearing

Police in Reading, Pa. say a Berks County man showed up drunk on Monday for his preliminary hearing -- on drunken driving charges.

Officials say 46-year-old Emerson Moore Jr. of Caernarvon Township was awaiting his hearing before Muhlenberg Township district justice Dean Patton when Moore got into an argument with state trooper Roberto Soto.

Soto had arrested Moore in the drunken-driving case June 20th.

Officials say the trooper smelled alcohol on Moore's breath as the two stood in the hallway outside Patton's courtroom.

Police say Moore, who had driven himself to court, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.10 percent. The legal limit for driving in Pennsylvania is 0.08 percent.

Patton revoked Moore's bail in the drunken-driving case and sent him to Berks County Prison on $2,500 bail. The justice said Moore also will be cited for public drunkenness.

Maybe he didn't want to expose the baby to a high-speed car chase?

If that was the case ...

why didn't he just stop and give himself up?

As it was he put other people at risk, collied with an innocent person's car and ended up killing himself.

I'm sorry, but I still say he deserved it. :=/

1. Did the baby survive?
2. That drunk should spend the rest of his life in an Inquisition-style dungeon.

Or at least in a class learing things not to do when going to court. :=/

I hate it when news sources remove "pesky details" in order to sex up a story.

> "who had taken his girlfriend's baby during a domestic dispute"

should read

"who had taken his girlfriend's car during a domestic dispute"

If his intent had been to take the baby then he probably wouldn't have stopped and put it out the door.

> "The driver eventually collided with another car."

should read

"The driver eventually collided with the empty police cruiser of an officer who was out of the vehicle laying out spike strips."

This is not shot at you, LK - I don't have huge sympathy for the guy either.

I just get a bit miffed at that kind of yellow journalism.

And furthermore...

Remember kids, don't show up drunk for your DWI court appearance unless you've brought enough to go around. Gah, what a yutz. He deserves whatever he gets.

Well, you're closer to the location of the story than either KYW or myself, so you probably know more of the details.

I'm not defending KYW, but they might be reporting what they got off the news wire.

If the news wire didn't have the other details you have mentioned, then KYW wouldn't have reported them because they wouldn't have known about them.

Again, I'm not defending KYW, but just offering a suggestion of why the story was reported the way it was.

After re-reading the story, I don't think leaving the details out of what type of car it was really makes a difference, though one could assume it was another occupied vehicle.

The important thing is no one else got hurt when the guy hit the other vehicle.

I find myself hoping the bastard suffered after his wreck. Is that bad of me?

The first I heard of it was on the radio, as I was driving down to LCHS.

And the gene pool is a little cleaner after such antics of an idiot. Why? Because he put an innocent in harms way and at least took himself out afterwards for good measure.

Am I a callus person for saying this? Maybe but think of what he could have done had he kept going?

*Sighs* No offense to you, but I really do get sick of people expecting the world to be idealistic. I mean, let's be honest. How often do you actually see people simply give up and surrender in a police chase? Just be glad the child wasn't hurt and only the man responsible for starting all of this suffered any consequence.
