From Maryland to Mexico, Nudity Crackdowns

The southern spit of Assateague Island National Seashore in Maryland has been a popular spot for nude sunbathing. But the feds are cracking down.

Two men were recently convicted of exposing themselves this summer and ordered to pay $650 fines each.

Assistant chief Ranger Ted Morlock says that's just the beginning. He adds that nudity won't be tolerated in the federal park.

Morlock says rangers became more concerned over the summer, after a naked guy propositioned a female off-duty ranger.

There's a city in Mexico, meanwhile, that's making it illegal for citizens to be naked inside their own homes.

Officials in the southeastern city of Villahermosa confirm that the city council has adopted a law banning indoor nudity.

A council member who opposes the idea says he's not sure how it will be enforced.

But a councilwoman who supports it says she's confident that citizens who catch a glimpse of violators while walking past their windows will report them to police -- even though the law also threatens jail for peeping toms.

She describes the law as "zero tolerance" for "a lack of morality."

I'll be honest and say I thought initially it was New Mexico they were talking about, not Mexico.

I'm just glad I don't live south of the border. Big Brother seems to be encroaching there. Also it seems they never learned the lesson that the U.S. learned when they passed the Prohibition Act: you can't legislate morality. People will do what they want, especially in the privacy of their own home.

As for the situation in Maryland, I can see where the NPS is coming from. You can't just ban men from nude sunbathing. Leave to one non-thinking person to ruin it for everyone.

Actually, the U.S. hasn't really learned that either. If our country had, all sorts of deliriously ridiculous laws would now be off the books.

Illegal to be naked in one's home.

Eeeeew. How you wash your clothes or shower?

I think I move on.... Yep..... *heads for the door on the right that says. "For sane law making only*
