A quick note ...
Nov. 8th, 2005 03:10 pmto say that I won't be on the 'net too much until Saturday or Sunday.
Why?
Well, I was supposed to move into another house (same landlord and lot: his daughter and I are switching houses) on Sunday, and I had set up to transfer my phone and electric services on Monday.
On sunday she comes over and says she wants to do the swap next Saturday and Sunday. :={
Well, this means I lose a day at the RR and my utilities were scheduled to be switched on 11/7, and she has not made arrangements to do the same. Also she, apparently, doesn't have an account with the phone company. She has the line and all, but no active service. Great, just great.
Thankfully the electric company customer service dept. opens at 7 a.m. I call them using my cell phone and tell them to delay to Friday. No big deal and that's taken care of. Phone company's CS dept. doesn't open until 8:30a. Well, I go to use my land-line to call them and it is dead. They already had done the switch! This means my current house has no phone service on either line (I have a dedicated line for the 'puter/fax). :={
I figure I better call Crystal (landlord's daughter) to tell her what had happened. So I dial my number and she picks up. I tell her that my phone is now ringing over there. She tells me that she won't answer the phone then (a clue that she didn't have phone service). I was going to put my answering machine over there, but decided against it, as then people there could hear any messages left for me. I'm not worried about someone using my phone line for long distance, as they can't. I have only "local calling" on my lines, so no toll calls can be made.
I'm still waiting to hear from Amtrak, but I don't want to miss their call. What to do? Thankfully Verizon has a voice mail that is operated from the CO (Central Office). I got that set up so that it picks up and I can access that from any phone.
So until Saturday or Sunday my on-line presence will be very limited.
I'm posting this from G&G, where I work on Tuesdays & Thursdays.
