Not a good morning. :=/
Jul. 10th, 2006 07:13 pmThis is not a way to start any morning, but starting a Monday morning this way... ;={
I ended up running a wee late getting out of the door, because of me checking my e-mail. Well, I've done that before, and no biggie.
I get in car start engine and turn on headlights. Nada. I have panel lights, but no low beams. I turn the switch off then on again: same result. I try the hi-beams and they work fine. I then realize actually only my driver side low beam is out. Not pretty, but drivable. :={
I then put up my driver side power window, and as it get to the top I hear CLUNK! 8=0
Clunk?! WTF. Power windows aren't supposed to go CLUNK! I lower the window partially and then re-raise it. It seemed to be working fine.
As I'm headed to the Wawa, to get money from the ATM, the road gets darker and I realize that my other low beam just blew. Damn. This is going to be tricky. It's now about 5:05a, still dark enough to need lights, but light enough that I don't really need them. :=/
I run up to Philly with just the parking/running lights on and hope that I don't have someone pull into my lane in front of me, because they didn't see me (my car is black).
As I'm driving up the highway I pass a cop, that was parked in the median. 8=0
I'm in the fast lane doing 85 mph with no headlights! Why he didn't pull out and give chase, I don't know (maybe he was asleep), but I thank the Lord above that he didn't.
I pull up to the toll plaza and "roll" the window down, with no problem, to pay my toll. I then go to "roll" it back up and no way. It just sits there fully retracted. Great, just great.
Fortunately, for me, rain wasn't in the forecast, and I park in a relatively secure area, so my window being down wasn't a major concern while I was at work.
After I returned to my car, I tried to get the window to go up. I heard the window's motor spinning, but the window didn't move. :={
Repairing the headlights was easy, after I got home. I stopped at the local auto parts store and bought two new bulbs. I can't complain about the bulbs blowing, because they are probably the original bulbs from 1997 and 174 k miles ago. I just wish they would've blown at a more convenient time. :=/
The window, however is a different story. I dismantled the door panel and found that part of the cable assembly popped loose and got the cables tangled and pinched. I tried to correct the problem, but no dice. So I cut the cables, removed the motor/regulator assembly and tied the window in the up position. :=/
Tomorrow I call the local Hyundai dealership and get a new regulator and cables ordered and then drop off the car when they come in. I do a lot of my own repairs, but I'm not about to fool with power windows. :=/
I'm just hoping that this bad luck happens now, to the car, and not to my bid on the house. :=|
There are other repairs the cars needs to have done to it, but they can wait.
One thing is for sure; I can afford a house or a new car, but not both! 8=0

Mind you, they're small so maybe that's not your thing :)
