The seller didn't take the bid.

She wanted to walk away with no less than $227.5k and we were in the $213k range. To get her that amount we would have had to get a mortgage in the $234.5k range, and that would mean we would be working just to support the house. :={

We're probably going to keep looking, but the one that seemed to "fit" is a no go at this time, unless one of us hits the lottery or something. :=/

We're sorry to hear that... but, at least now you know - and can keep looking. I think something will turn up... perhaps even something better.

Besides, you never know how things turn out. When submitting a bid for our home, the previous owner rejected the initial bid, then a few weeks later when no other offers came in, he contacted our buyer's agent to see if we'd reconsider re-activating our offer. Ultimately, we were able to find a suitable middle ground. As the real estate market continues to slow down, buyers are in a stronger position overall. It's important to not become too emotional when bidding on a house as that can really get you in trouble. With persistence and perserverance, the right place will come along. When it does, we hope it is a very happy home for you!

Was there actually a buyer at $227.5K? If not, then just give it time and she'll come around.

It was the first, it won't be the last. You may just have to settle for Second Best. I think you'll do very well no matter what. You have the will and the resources.

Gook luck!

Sorry this one didn't work out but I'm sure you'll find another.
Also, there's always the chance that you will get a second shot at this one. Any number of things can happen: no other bids or the contact with a potential buyer falling through are just 2 examples.

You'll find your dream home, LK. In the meantime, just keep putting money away. Whether you need it for the down payment or not, it's always good to have "something extra" tucked away.

We didn't get the first house we bid on either.

You'll find something, I'm sure :)
