FWA was a blast. We might do it more often as I do have President's Day off. ;=3

First of all a big thanks and shout out to RRWolf for shuttling me from/to the train station.

The reason I went down was to check on my new mask that Lionel/Solion/Lion of the sun is making for me.

http://www.lionofthesun.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album19&page=1 for the pics of it under construction.

I will say that the pics do not do it justice, at all. The eyes were not in place, so the bare cameras were visible, giving me a "Terminator" appearance. ;=3

The people next to him said it was the most realistic lion mask they ever saw and they work with lions every day. They also said that if I were to walk next to the lion cages, with the mask on, every male lion would focus on me and wonder who the hell I was and what I was doing on the wrong side of the fence. ;=3

That is a pretty nice compliment, and to fool real lions... that is an art.

I walked with the mask on, once in suit, and the jaws dropped. :=3

Everyone loved the mask, and gave it a nickname: "Night Vision Lion". Lionel had the mask on display at his table and been extolling its features.

The mask does take a bit to get used to, though not in the fit or anything. I wore it for about a hour and a half, and I only thought I had it on for about 45 minutes. No sweating or anything. It is a very comfortable mask to wear.

The part that takes getting used to is the fact that I'm seeing in both color and near infra red. Colors are way different and I can see IR LEDs. Auto-focus cameras give out a brief line of IR when they focus.
Another thing is that my "eyes" are now ~6" further in front of my face than normal. It makes navigating a bit weird, but with practice I can do so without problem.

One small, but manageable, problem did arise: I can no longer put my suit on unassisted. Someone now has to tuck in the extra fur, make sure that I'm zipped up and the mane is laying correctly.

Speaking of the mane, I will have the problem that real lions face; having the mane fall in front of my eyes. I think I'll use brown colored barrettes to hold the mane along the side of the face. I wonder what an actual anthro lion would do. :=3

I am multifaceted.

I tend to classify portions of my personality into different characters.

Part of me is boggling at the price that must have cost.

Part of me is both flabbergasted and intrigued by the idea of seeing near-IR.

And part of me, picture in my icon, is openly and shamelessly looking forward to any opportunity to beg for a chance to try that on. :)

Fursuit lackey, volunteering for service!

Well, what I paid for it, and what he will charge for the next one like mine are two different amounts. I got a break because it was the prototype. Any future masks that has everything mine has will cost a minimum of $2500.

The cameras will have vid out so I can stream from one camera to a TV set. I'm thinking if possibly hooking it up to a X10 system so people can actively watch and listen as I walk through a con. :=3

Seeing in near IR is both unnerving and neat. You can see all IR sources. :=3

You will be able to try it on, but the mask was built for me, using a life cast of my head, so it may not fit you too well.

Cool. Given that I've yet to find a hat that fits my head diameter, I think I'd be better served watching on TV than trying on something sized for someone else. Still... that's freakin' awesome. :)

Get a haircut ya hippie!
Either that, or maybe a couple pink bows in the mane.

What is that, a cross between a mask and some animatronics?

Seeing in IR. That has to be all kinds of cool.

$25 eh, what did yours cost then... $17?

A real Anthro would probably just cut it :P

I'd still go the body paint/movie latex route myself... especially for that kind of money for a toy as nifty as that one.

Lizard Rat out.

There are several reasons against a lion cutting his mane:

- The hair itself would be very hard to cut, given its texture. It's like paintbrush bristles.

- The mane isn't just growing off the head. It also grows off the chest (and belly, too, as he gets older).

- Every other lion would think him a wimp. :) A study suggests that lions (and lionesses, of course) use mane length and color as an indicator of strength and virility. Long, dark hair is a heat stressor on the savannah, and only the strongest constitutions can bear it.

No animatronics, yet. ;=3

Yes, seeing in IR is cool.

I think you put a decimal point where there is none, but you are close if you multiply by 100. ;=3

Hallan explained why a lion would not cut it.

I have latex masks and they are not fun. They get hot real quick.
