WOW! An update! :=3
Oct. 6th, 2007 09:29 amSorry for being quiet, but life has led me in other directions. :=/
First of all the 27th was my big 5-0. ;=3
How do I feel about it? Well, I'm glad I reached the milestone, but I'm not feeling anything special, good or bad, about it. I'm still living my life the way I did before.
About three weeks ago a certain Barbary lion invited Teri and I up to his place. I had thought something was afoot, but I wasn't sure. On the way up Smrgol called and wanted to know where I was. I told him and I we chatted about different things. He made mention that Kamau had a fursuit of his and sort of hinted that if I could bring it here to the lair it would be better. I said sure, no problem. I mentioned to Teri that Smrgol had mentioned that I might want to grab a fursuit of his that Kamau had.
As I arrived I looked for a certain Passat and any other familiar vehicles. Alas; the parking lot was empty. :={
Kamau greeted us and showed Teri the house. He then said that he had to check the hall as there was a cleaning crew in earlier and he wanted to make sure everything was locked up. He also wanted to show Teri the classrooms. As we wandered over we stopped by the garage and went inside, much to, as I was later to find out, Teri's fear. Kamau showed me the "empty" bay and told me how he plans to put up a wall and put his layout in there.
We then continued to the hall and Kamau kicked out a stone that was holding the side door ajar. I made a mental note to say something to him about his cleaning crew's lack of security procedures. In my mind that door should have been closed and locked. I don't care if he does live next door and this is rural New York state. That type of building should be secure when it is not in use. This is my security background coming out. As we entered the hall I noticed the kitchen light on, but I figured that we would get it on the way out. As we were walking past I heard water running for a brief second or two. Red flags went up and alarm bells were ringing in my head! The kitchen is closed, but there is water running! This isn't right! Someone is in the building! So with out making a comment to anyone, and as quietly as I could I went to the kitchen door and opened it.
To my surprise there was Camstone, Mooivos, Smrgol, the Gneech and Laurie (Mrs. Gneech). :=3
They sang happy birthday to me, and I'm sure I blushed. I sort of ruined their plans as they had wanted to wait until we went to the classrooms and then they would be out in the hall as we came back. Sorry guys, but my security instincts take over pretty quickly when I sense something amiss.
We had a great weekend. Kudos go to Teri and the rest for keeping me in the dark. You got me good. Also Kudos go to Mooivos and Camstone for a great meal and some fine entertainment. Kamau, Smrgol and I sort of took over part of the hall with a H-O scale layout and we were running trains just for the fun of it. DCC is great for that type of operation. No block switches to worry about. Camstone and the Gneech took over and were running the engines, much to their delight. I think there may be another 2 railfurs out there. ;=3
As for gifts, well Smrgol out did himself with a 1/29th scale Budd RDC in the P-RSL scheme, numbered M-410, one of the RDC's I actually operate. ;=3 Teri got me a bottle of 12year old single malt Scotch and a t-shirt she had picked up at AC. Camstone and Mooivos provided the food, as previously mentioned. The Gneech did a sketch of Tiffany wearing my hat and about to devour a cake. And I guess the biggest gift, in that sense, was Kamau putting up with the bunch of crazy furs for the weekend, but I do believe he wouldn't have it any other way. Of course with a 1/29th scale RDC I'm now planning a garden railroad to run it on. ;=3
Of course the greatest gifts was the party and the friendships with the gang.
As for Teri's fear about us going into the garage, that was because she thought Smrgol's car was in there and Kamau would give the surprise away. I later found out that the hardest part of the whole thing was getting me to agree to go to Kamau's that weekend. :=3
One of the things that I grabbed before I left the house was my sketch book. So, on an unconscious level I was pretty sure that something was up. The Gneech asked for it and he sketched what I guess is the defining moment of the weekend. And after I can get my scanner to talk to my 'puter again I'll post a scan of it. Just be fore warned, never give a certain Celtic fox a high powered blower when he is trying to get a fire started. :=3
Thanks again gang for a wonderful weekend.
The next weekend I had a sleep study done. Teri and I are fairly certain that I suffer from sleep apena and that is the reason I'm tire during the day. I'm not getting any restful sleep. I have to make an appointment for a follow up to see what the study determined.
Kamau stopped by on his way to training in VA. It's nice to be located in a place where friends don't have to make too big of a detour to visit if they're going up/down the eastern seaboard.
Also JBadger and Foxwell showed up after their skydiving outing at an airport near the den. Foxwell's eyes were a big as dinner plates as I showed him the house and grounds. It makes sense though, as he told me he lives in a studio apartment in mid-town Manhattan.
Last weekend Teri and I headed over to my brother's place. I knew it was a going to be a small gathering to celebrate my 50th. My parents were up and Teri's mom was going to join us. Both for my birthday and to meet my parents. 8=0
As she found out I get my insanity and punning from my mom, and, to a lesser extent, my dad. I had invited UT Tiger (aka Artair) to the party so he wouldn't feel left out and to give his spirits a lift. What I didn't know that he had already been invited, as well as another family friend, and Mooncat with the rest of the gaming gang, who for various reasons couldn't make it. Also one of my best friends, and his wife were invited, but they couldn't find someone to watch his mother, who is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's. :={ (I remember his mom when she was vibrant and she taught me how to play pinochle. :=3 )
Mooncat put it best when she described my mom: "She seems like a sweet old lady, then she says something." :=3 I told my mom that and she agrees, as well as my father.
I got some really nice gifts, including a nice walking stick, with a lion's head top, from my brother and his girlfriend. But, again, the best gifts were the friendships I have with everyone there, and those that didn't make it.
To put my mom's sense of humor into perspective, we were discussing what kind of wood the walking stick was made of. Someone said it might be ash and my mom piped up with, "Well, if you put in a fire it will be ash." :=3 And you wonder where I get it from? ;=3
Thanks go to Barb, my brother's girlfriend, for putting out her normal over abundance of food. Artair and Mooncat found out Barb's aversion to flies. She hates them with a vengeance.
This weekend nothing is on the plate, so to speak, other than JBadger and Foxwell spending the night so they can go skydiving tomorrow with out the long drive in the morning.
As always, anyone who wants to come a visit and possibly stay the night is more than welcome, though you might want to check if we're going to be here. ;=3
