Another post ;=3
Oct. 6th, 2007 11:27 amI mentioned in my previous post about life leading me in other directions. Here is an explanation.
I haven't been too active in the on-line sense because I've really got the model railroading bug again. Just ask Teri and my bank account. ;=3
I've been doing planning and modeling for my H-O scale empire. Shockwave, I sort of know the problems you are having with Vegas, as I'm using surface mount yellow LEDs to simulate high pressure sodium lamps that are used in diesel inspection houses. I'm designing how to mount them accurately in an H-O scale model. ;=3 By the way if you have any 1-3 amp 5 volt regulators you don't need .... ;=3
I'm also designing a diorama for the next (2009) Walther's catalog. I've also really learned how to use an airbrush that has been sitting unused for about 25 years or so. So the model railroading bug has bitten hard. :=3
I blame Smrgol for this, because he took me to a friend's beautiful H-O scale version of the Union Pacific that uses DCC. This really got me back into modeling. :=3

Date: 2007-10-06 07:55 pm (UTC)You know, if you really want to see some beautiful trainage worth modelling, take the Empire Builder through Glacier National Park. The timetable remains the same as it was when NP established the line over a hundred years ago, so that either way you're going, you pass through the park when the sun is low on the horizon. It's quite spectacular.

Date: 2007-10-06 10:09 pm (UTC)I must correct one thing though. It was not the Northern Pacific that ran the Empire Builder, but the Great Northern. The GN and NP did share some trackage, so that's where the confusion may arise.
BTW, the train was named for the GN's founder James J. Hill, the "Empire Builder" of the west in railroading. The "Glacier Park" was "built" by the GN to provide a vacation destination for its travelers and they, the GN, coined the phrase "See America First". You will notice that at the time Glacier Park was not a "National" park, as that was still in the future.
The Empire Builder first started running in 1929. The "new" streamlined version was introduced in 1947, with brand new diesels. The domes were added in 1955, and this was when the train was as its all time best.
