Shockwave,

I was wondering if you have a "spare" controller from your Vegas build that you are willing to part with.

Here is what I'm doing. I am planning to equip a H-O scale house with Christmas lights. These lights have 4 colors/channels (red, yellow, green, blue) and are rated at 12V at 50ma each. There will be 10 bulbs per channel, so the total draw per channel will be .5 amp. I would like to run the bulbs at 6-9 volts so as to extend their lifetimes and dim them so not to overpower the scene and to make them more in scale.

So, what say you? :=3

Neither Vegas nor the controllers I'm using to build Boxen drive regular incadesent lamps - only LEDs. But I do have a spare Boxen board you can have. It drives 16 LEDS, but you need a microcontroller to command it. You clock 16bits into it and strobe the latch, and the TLC5921 current drives the LEDs. For Boxen, each channel has 3LEDs in series with a resistor and powered by the 12V line.

I assume I could drive opto-isolators with the Boxen board, correct.

By using the IOs I cold then drive the incandescents.

I'll also need more info on the micro-controller. I'm good at basic electronics, not so hot on computer processor issues. :=/
