What's happened in the past month or so.

Ok, I promised an explaination of why I haven't been posting, so here it is.
Part of the reason I was getting up at 4:00a Mon-Fri to work at McD's and working at the RR sat & Sun. I don't mind working 7 days a week, mostly because I don't really see the railroad as work, I enjoy it.
Getting up at 4:00a on the other hand. :=3P
I was not getting the "restful" sleep I needed. Just another hour, getting up at 5a, makes a world of difference to me. I was tired, irratable. and just plain drained when I came home.
Don't get me wrong, the hours, at McD's, of 4:30a to 1p are great hours, but I needed that extra hour of sleep.
I was only on line to check my e-mail, the news and read my favorite comics. I had basically ceased all interaction on the 'net. ;={
That was the reason I was so "down" on my whelp(birth)day.
BTW, thanks to all that wished me a happy one. ;=3
Well that's not a problem anymore. I quit McD's on Thursday 10/17/02.
The reasons are many fold. Not the least of which is the lack of follow up by the managers at the Malaga store. One main reason was because I was taken to task for taking an extra 7-8 minutes on my break. Now I had taken a full hour every so often, and I can understand their problems with that. I could also see their point if I was working the grill and there was someone else waiting to go on break or we had to get ready for lunch. Thing is I was the maintance man and no-one was waiting for me to return.
There is another reason, and probably a big part of it, is that I became bored with the Mon-Fri routine. I have finally figured out that I need to be constantly given a challenge. Working at the other stores to get them ready for inspections, or just to help out, was a blast. It broke up the routine, but going to the same store day in and day out got to me. I mean there are only so many ways to sweep a lot.
The railroad is not that way. for even if you run a train 5 days a week over the same 13 miles of track, it is always slightly different and you have to keep alert. That's the type of job I like and need. About time I figured that out. :=/
Yes, I gave up a good chunk of change and full "bennies", but you know what, I'm happier.
Yes, you read that right, I'm happier.
For those that know me personally you might find that a shock. Before you ask, I'm not using the St. John's Wort. This is my own change.
The difference? Well it could be that I "pulled the plug" on the job. I didn't have it yanked out from under me because I no longer had a DL. Also it could be I realized what was happening to me.
This does put the lion back to "square one" as for looking for a job, but I'm optomistic about my prospects. There are things that are happening down at the RR that may, no, make that *WILL*, give me a full time job. These events should take place during the next month or so.
So until the 17th all I was doing was sleeping working and sleeping some more with no interaction.
I hope to talk to you soon as my 'net activity picks up. ;=3

"People tend to be happy to the extent that they feel in control of their lives."
It sounds to me as if you are doing well indeed in this most crucial category. I'm pleased.

Date: 2002-11-14 11:34 pm (UTC)It seems to me you took charge of a situation that McD's put you in where you were not in charge. It's a good thing. And a good reason to be happy.
But come around more, man! We miss you. If not here, make an occasional appearance at the SJ forums, maybe?
