What a way to start the day. :=/

We were pulling into NYPS and about a train length from the platform when I hear a great big *WOOSH* of air and the brakes came on.

I told my fellow riders, "We just lost an air hose." When air hoses uncouple under pressure they make a very distinctive sound. The Assist. Conductor walked by and gave his opinion that someone pulled the emergency brake. Why someone would pull the brake, which is a federal offense if there is no emergency, made no sense.

We sat a bit and they then shut down the head end power, which meant people were on the ground looking at the train. The conductor then made the announcement that said, indeed, air hoses had parted on a crossover. I looked at my fellow travelers and said, "What did I say?"
They admitted I said it was an air hose. One guy said, "You know too much about trains." ;=3

Is it any wonder I created a poster for my office that reads: Train 110: It's not just a commute, it's an adventure. ;=3

A neat thing to have would be a server on the train itself, and a MMORPG game that takes place inside a monsterous train in cyberspace. The passengers play for the time it takes to reach their destination. At arrival, the game ends, and the scores are tallied.

Might be, but at the time I commute the people are either just about awake or already working.

When I started this commute I was astounded by how much work gets done by 7a.

BTW, 110 leaves Philly at 5:52a and arrives NYPS at ~7:17a. Some of that time is spent taking a nap. :=3

Oh yeah I understand that one fully. After a decade or two ago when I was doing 4:40am trains from Liverpool to London and people where doing their business on said trains.

How some can commute that every day back and forth I have no idea, I know some travel down to London on the Monday and stay there in a hotel or such and travel back again on the Friday.

Been made much easier these days though what with Virgin offering electrical sockets and paid for WIFI service so a lot of people traveling into London are already logged in for business and doing such. :)

Still don't like rush hour though in the Underground in London however. If I wanted to be packed like a Sardine I would've been born as a sardine. XD

To be honest I don't think you have issues on any train in this country as it's about the same distance from Philly to New York.

The massive timetables etc may be a challenge for you though. XD
