A day late, but ...
Sep. 12th, 2011 10:48 amin answer to the question where was I on 9/11/01:
I was running the train for a charter with two conductors.
As there is no radio or TV on the train we had no idea what was happening. When we pulled into the 4H fairgrounds station everyone was standing around in shock; not the normal excited milling around.
We asked what was happening and they told us to go into one of the tour buses and watch the TV. To say we were overwhelmed is an understatement.
We still did the charter, but the mood was somber and everyone was talking about what had happened. We then went back for another load and I watched as the first tower fell. My mind was numb with what was happening.
The rest of the day went without incident, but the mood on the train was not the usual excited talk one normally hears.
I still get goosebumps when I think of that day. It was totally possible I could've gone through the day and not known what was happening until much later.
To the heroes and innocents of that day: I will not forget!
