In the sky

A South Jersey & Western Air Boeing 767, in the new image scheme, is over the ocean on a trans-Atlantic flight.

South Jersey & Western Air is a subsidiary of my model railroad, the South Jersey & Western. :=3

Poser Pro 2012 and Vue 10

Outstanding LK! The aircraft shape and textures are perfect and I like the reflective qualities on the hull(? Is it hull or fuselage?).

Two questions:
How much does Poser cost and how steep is the learning curve? I have a few story arcs planned for my comic that involve aircraft.

It is either hull or fuselage, with fuselage being the more correct term. And thanks for the compliment on the texturing, as it is a custom skin I did. :=3

Well, you can get Poser Debut for $49.99 US: http://store.smithmicro.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=15539&gclid=CKPmyNeBnK4CFQPe4Aodgnjqcw

The learning curve isn't too steep. Just play with it. :=3

Note that the airplanes I use are not part of the package and have to be purchased separately. There are plenty of fine sites for 3D models that can be used in Poser.

What follows is a partial list.
Renderosity: http://www.renderosity.com/
RuntimeDNA: http://www.runtimedna.com/home.php
Smith Micro's Content Paradise: http://contentparadise.com/
DAZ 3D: http://www.daz3d.com/
Share CG, which has a lot of free stuff: http://www.sharecg.com/b/11/Poser/

plus many more sites.

Most stuff listed for DAZ3D Studio will work in Poser except the new Genesis line of figures for Studio.

Also note that once you get into it, it can be a time/money sink. :=3

(Sorry for the delay in getting back to you; was in day surgery on Thursday).

Thanks for all the links. Once summer is over I'll take a serious look at it. I'm learning to draw properly, and this could be the year that I'll restart my comic properly.

Re time/money sink, what kind of things draw money and is Poser a time sink because it's addictive or because it takes a long time to achieve results?

Money sink is buying all the neat models that you can't do without. :=3

Poser is addictive and you will lose track of time.

Well the intention is to use Poser for my comic, so I won't be using too many models from other creators lest I'll have to credit them when they appear in the comic.

Timewise, I have so little of that anyway that I'm unlikely to become addicted.

Most of the time the creators don't require credit.

Some restrictions come if you are going to use the models in a commercial render, like in an advert.

An example of a usage license from VanishingPoint's AH-1 Cobra Helicopter, from Renderosity:
Usage License:
You are completely free to use this figure in any commercial or non-commercial render, image, or animation.
You may NOT sell or give away any files found in this zip package without express permission.

And another one from Dreamland Models and his 2005 Ford Mustang:
You may use this package in any commercial or non commercial renders.

You cannot resell the files or include them in another product or package.

You may not give it away as a gift, or offer it for free downloading.

As you can see most of the restrictions limit redistributing the models, especially the ones that are not free. You just need to check the "Read Me" file for any restrictions. :=3
