Today it is "Shopping with LK"! :=3
Sep. 8th, 2012 03:32 pmBeing I haven't done any major food shopping since June, I did some today.
So, let's see how the shopping trip went.
Number of items bought: 132
Total cost: $445.89
Sales tax paid: $3.75 (on non-food items)
Total "Price Cut Savings": $16.61
Total "Preferred Savings" (Club Card): $29.86
Total savings: $46.47
Saving percentage: 9.5%
Total cost without the savings: $492.36
Average cost per item: ~$3.78 ($3.3779545454545454545454545454545)
Note that I didn't buy any "junk food" nor TV dinners. I was taught, by my mom and dad, how to shop and eat healthy. I did buy some snacks but didn't overload on them.
This doesn't include the $174 I spent on beer & wine on Friday. :=3
BTW, in June I spent over $750.00 on food, but that also included alot of staples (sugar, flour, spices) that I needed to replenish. I also have some items left from that shopping trip.

Date: 2012-09-11 08:54 am (UTC)My fursona is an accomplished cook, something I *wish* I was. I can whip up a few simple dishes, but nothing requiring any finesse.
I average about AUD$90-120 per week for supermarket shopping - no car means I can only bring home what I can fit in my 2-wheeled trolley. Couldn't tell you what the sales tax is; in Australia the final displayed price already includes the GST (Goods and Services Tax) though it does appear in receipts.

Date: 2012-09-11 12:43 pm (UTC)New Jersey has a 7% sales tax on non-essential items. Food you have to prepare is non-taxable, but if you go to McD's that food is taxable. Clothing, for the most part, is non-taxable, except for sports items.
The 7% is variable. If you go to a "Urban Enterprise Zone", such as Vineland, then the tax is cut in half to 3.5%.
I could cut my food budget to what you spend if I went shopping every week, which I do not, as you can tell. :=3
You really have to come visit the lion. I can whip up some serious stir=fry of veggie soup that you would love. :=3
