As of this morning I can no longer receive phone calls, which will make it interesting if a prospective employer wants to contact me by voice. Best way to contact me is by e-mail.

The longer the no job/money situation drags on the more anxious I get.

I will survive, always have, but it is getting into the desperate zone pretty damn fast. After the 15th I lose the guarantee that my power won't be shut off. I'll be able to cook as I have a propane fueled Coleman stove. No water, but that can be had though.

I just hope my internet doesn't go the way of the phone, though I can go elsewhere and get connected, although intermittently.

Just an update, nothing more.

Stay connected somehow! Even if it means crashing with somebody. You have this tendency to collapse in on yourself if you're alone too long.

I will try to stay connected as best I can.

Crashing with someone is an interesting, but impracticable, idea. There is no one close I could move in with for even a short while. :=/

The Gneech is right. That's why I was so grateful to all of my loyal friends for keeping in touch.

Some libraries permit free internet services. Would they do so in your part of the world?

There are libraries with free internet services in the U.S., but I do not know how close they are to me. I do have other options and my cable is not going to be shut off soon.

Conrail?

I was just told by one of the customers who is an engineer for Conrail that they are hiring.

He said to check their website. I took a look, but there's nothing listed on the "public" site right now. If you know someone who could look at the employee's site, there may actually be something.

There are other VOIP options out there, I have a # from Comcast for $1.00 a month with a portable phone plugged into a jack on the cable modem, this is likely viable for you.

Consider also Google Voice. You will need a one time phone # for verification, perhaps Skype will do.

From the Google Voice welcome email:

Welcome to Google Voice. Google Voice gives you a single phone number that rings all of your phones, saves your voicemail online, and transcribes your voicemail to text. Other cool features include the ability to listen in on messages while they're being left, block unwanted callers, and make cheap international calls. We hope you enjoy using Google Voice.
