After downloading some new programs, I refuse to call them apps on a computer, Yahoo Search was set to my new home page, which I do not want.

I have tried resetting the home page to the one I prefer, but Yahoo keeps coming back. Is there a way to get rid of the unwanted homepage with out destroying all of my cookies? I am using the most recent version of FireFox on a Dell running Windoze 8.1.

Thanks.

One option is to install SearchReset.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/

Users have had varying degrees of success with SearchReset, but many consider it useless.

If it fails, you'll probably have to try manually editing the user.js or prefs.js file in your Firefox "preferences" folder. You should be able to edit the offending information with a text editor.

My sympathy. I know how infuriating it is when programs make their own choices for you. My home page on FireFox has been changed several times.

I also need to remember to block Mcafee's virus scanner from installing itself whenever Adobe updates on my PC.

In the URL bar, type in "about:addons" and hit RETURN.

Disable every extension you don't recognize. You may keep AdBlock Plus, uBlock (both versions), LastPass, Keepass, Xmarks, FlashBlock, GreaseMonkey, and Stylish (because I'll vouch for them). Get rid of any add-on taskbar -- they're useless and take up space. Do the same for any plugins.

Restart your Firefox, and try to change the homepage again.
