Well, that was interesting

Yesterday there was a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for my area. They weren't kidding! While we didn't get the 70mph (112kph) winds, they were pretty strong, and plenty of rain and lightening.
Power blinked 3 times and I knew we were going to lose it. Sure enough at about 6p everything went dark. I saw a couple of fire trucks head down the street with lights on, but no sirens. I figured a tree was down. After a bit I wandered down to where the trucks were and they were busy cutting up a fallen tree. Luckily it didn't hit a house nor crush a car. Another bystander said that there were power lines down along Rte 40, and arcing, but the power company wouldn't come out until the lightening stopped. That happened at about 10:30p.
Fortunately I have "hurricane lamps" and candles at paw for just such an emergency. Funny thing is that one of the lamps would not adjust its wick properly. I took the wick out and guessed it was a bit too wide. So what to do? Easy, by candle light I narrowed the wick by using an X-Acto knife. :=3
The lamp adjusts its wick perfectly now.
Power came back about a half hour ago. I checked the thermometers in my fridge and the freezer was sitting at 26F (-3C) and the fridge was at 62F (17C). I felt the items in the fridge and they were still plenty cool. I keep the freezer at -5F(-20C), so everything was sill frozen solid, so no worries there.
So an interesting night here at the den. :=3
