More MFF under the cut

I guess [livejournal.com profile] quickcasey and I got to MFF at about 9:30a or so.

This was a weird feeling, getting to a con so early on a Friday. Those that know my attendance at AC know that I normally get there at around 7:30p after working at the RR all day.

Well, Quick Casey, actually just "Casey", but that was taken as a LJ name, had to finish building the stage in the main ballroom. I decided to register for the con and see if they had any dealer tables left. I had sent a check in with my reg form saying I would like to be a stand-by dealer in case someone backed out.

I was told to go to the dealers room and talk to those in charge. I think Rama Lion led me over. BTW, Rama, it was great meeting you and being able to talk to you more than a few seconds. ;=3

I told them who I was and asked my question. They said that they were in the process of putting more tables in, as they had more room than they expected. Also, and this is a quote, "You are the only one who has ever asked for half a table. We'll make sure you get in."

So, the head of the dealer's room (I forget his name) grabbed my packet and headed to the reg table with me in tow. Please note that I still had all my luggage, as Casey still hadn't gotten a room assignment yet.

After I got registered as a dealer (yea! new ribbon! :=3 ) I found a few furs I was on the look out for. I think one of the first was [livejournal.com profile] hallan. Hallan, I'm sorry we didn't get to talk, or hang out as much as you and I wanted. :=/

Casey found me and gave me my key. And I headed up to our room to unload my luggage and get the stuff needed to promote the [livejournal.com profile] capemayfurmeet.

I then went down to the "Business Center" to do some copying. A warning here: Never, under any circumstances try to use their, the Hyatt's, fax/copy machine in the "Business Center". I wanted to copy two different things, with 20 copies for each. Well, sometimes the lion doesn't read well enough and put the original in upside down. I set the copier for 20 and pressed start. When I realized that I made a mistake and cancelled, it billed my credit card for 4 minutes of fax usage at a $1 a minute. WTF!

I headed over to the main desk to complain. It was supposed to bill my card for copy with a minimum of $2. This was not acceptable. I would've not said anything if the receipt said copy and $2, but fax and $4 was not right. You may say that $4 is not much, but if you know me and my financial state you know that every $ counts.

The woman at the front desk was understanding, but said she couldn't do anything about the bill. I fumed silently because the billing error was not my fault. She then offered to make my 40 copies on their office machine at no charge. This surprised me. I thought she would've balked at the amount of copies I needed, but she said it was ok. So, in actuality, the cost per copy was 10 cents, about the same as Kinkos. ;=3

I then headed back to the dealers room to find that my table was "special".

Instead of the normal rectangular table, that had put a half round table in a gap between two different tables. This actually was sort of nice as it made telling people where my table was much easier. ;=3

As [livejournal.com profile] the_gneech and [livejournal.com profile] mammallamadevil were unpacking I spied one of those Plexiglas document easels. you know the type that is nothing but formed Plexiglas. I asked if they had a spare and, if so, could I borrow it. They said no problem. John, Kerry, you both rock. Thanks for putting up with me for the entire con. :=3

Before the dealer room was opened for business a certain cockroach was spotted wandering around the room. I snagged him and showed him one of the flyers that pointed out that he was GOH for CMFM.

He got a smile on face and then took a pen and "autographed" one of the flyers. That one went into the display easel. I also had timetables for the RR on display.

A funny note here, a certain lion (not me) threw said cockroach out of the dealer's room after it was noted that the cockroach was not a dealer and the room was not opened to the public.

Before the dealer room opened I went up to the coffee kiosk to get something to eat, as I had not had anything to eat other than a sandwich while Casey and I were headed to the hotel.

While I was ordering I heard my name mentioned. I turned and saw [livejournal.com profile] atara and [livejournal.com profile] plonq sitting at a table.

I took a few minutes and sat with them. It was great to see them again, and I wanted to meet up with Atara, especially after that one post I did. Truth be told, I was kind of nervous, before I saw them, of how our meeting would go. Would Atara even want to talk to me?

Well, my fears were erased, being she was the one who called my name. When I got ready to leave, so I could get to the dealer's room before it opened, I expressed my feelings about that post. She told me that her anger wasn't really directed at me, but she had heard that general feeling one too many times, and I got the brunt of her anger.

So, with that meeting and my friendship renewed, I headed down to the dealers room and spent the day there.

One thing to note was I didn't sleep well on the train and I kept thinking it was about 3 to 4 hours later than it actually was.

I met many people that day that I had wanted to meet again. The one good thing about the dealer's room is that most people will walk through it once, so you will get to see most everyone who is attending. The bad thing is if, like myself, you are the only one at your table, it is hard to leave. Fortunately I could get up and wander around as the flyers and timetables were self explanatory and could sell themselves.

The dealer's room closed and I actually went to bed early as I was still bushed from the trip and the day.

Next year I will definitely be getting a sleeper on both trains.

Saturday next time around.

Ah, you managed to make copies. I was wondering how you got them.

I do apologize for the confusion at registration - if nothing else, I should have offered to let you store your luggage behind the tables while working things out with Brendan Lonehawk. Sorry about that! The interface between Registration and Dealers Room is a continuing issue for us, and an area we really need to improve on for next year. Glad to hear the rest of the con went well for you, though!

Confusion? What confusion? I wasn't at FC. ;=3

Duncan, it was my choice to lug that stuff around. I could've very easily asked if I could stash my stuff somewhere.

The guys at the reg table pointed me in the direction I needed to go and everything went better than I expected, with me getting a table and all.

So no apologies needed, and I was surprised at the lack of lines at the reg tables also.
