Pinging Shockwave. ;=3
Dec. 19th, 2007 06:32 pmThanks for the card and insert. however I started building the lighting before I got it. Slow couple of days at work. :=3
For those that are wondering, I had bought a "Diesel House" from Walthers. It is the place where inspections and light repairs are normally done.
I decided to spice it up some and add some lighting so the crews could "work" at night. I then bought some surface mount yellow LEDs to simulate those high pressure sodium lights.
Here are the results. Note that the platforms are upside down.
Full platforms with LEDs lit:

Close up of one LED:

Here is the size of the LEDs I'm working with :=3 :

The wiring and LEDs are held on with low temp hot glue. After the platforms are mounted in the building the wiring should mostly be hidden. :=3
The lights in the middle of the platforms are to illuminate the work area under the platforms. I have finished one of the smaller platforms since the photos were taken.
I need to order more of the same LEDs to finish the entire building. I plan to put some on the track support posts and some on the sides of the building as security lights. I also need to find pale blue LEDs, to simulate mercury vapor lamps, to hang from the overhead trusses. :=3
BTW, the workbench pictured is my work area at work. ;=3

Date: 2007-12-20 12:12 am (UTC)As for pale blue LED's... how about this one (http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=160-1737-1-ND)? Basically I searched the White LED category, then chose those LED's with a high color temperature so they'd appear bluish.

Date: 2007-12-20 12:40 am (UTC)Using a "helping hand" when soldering the leads onto the side units was a big help. Also using the smallest possible tip with the highest temp setting so you're in and out works the best.
For the LEDs directly on the platforms I slid a utility knife blade under them, to protect the plastic from the heat, and then used a modified chopstick to hold the LED in place while I soldered it.
BTW, modifying a chopstick, so it has a blunt pointed end, makes a great tool for holding small parts while soldering

Date: 2007-12-22 10:54 pm (UTC)If there's a few other furs around and you don't mind me staying over the night (you're a bit over 2 hours away from me), sure. But if it's just going to be you and the tigress, I'll leave 'yas be to have a nice quiet evening together. ;o)

Date: 2007-12-23 12:23 am (UTC)As for staying over, check this post out: http://lowen-kind.livejournal.com/149345.html .
In other words, no problems with you staying over, we have plenty of room. Let me know if you need directions.
As for a quiet evening together, that is normal around here. :=3

Date: 2007-12-28 03:22 am (UTC)I'm planning to go to Tony's gathering on Sunday, stay over 'till Monday, then drive down to your place. So I'm guessing I'll probably be down there late afternoon Monday.
By the way, I have a Nintendo Wii, projector, and screen if you'd like me to bring them along. I've found it's easy to pick up and fun to play even if you're not into gaming or haven't played anything in years.
