Random thoughts
Jul. 23rd, 2002 07:16 pmHere are some random thoughts from the RR'ing lion.
1. I have started back at McD's. I still don't know what my authority is or to whom I report to on the patch level, but that is to be figured out this week.
I do know that I will be working at one store in the near future, to help them get ready for a "White Glove". Why do I sense some "overnighters" coming up in my very near future. :=/
Oh, well. I knew this would happen when I took the position.
BTW, the crew is glad I'm back. :=3
2. There was an unfortunate happening in one of the forums I frequent.
It seems one new avatar took a dislike to the way the forums are run. He AIM'ed (AOL Instant Messenger) the moderator, and in a funny, but not nice way, told that moderator what he thought of her and the way the forums were set up.
That moderator, with names changed, posted the exchange, on LJ, with no animosity, just to show one of the "weirder" AIM's she has got. In fact she said, in a comment that she though it was sort of funny.
Apparently, not everyone who reads that LJ read the entire comment section. The flames started, both on the forum, through e-mail and through other means. Also , apparently, though it could be coincidence, someone, or some ones, sent this avatar a couple of viruses. :={
People, people, people.
Ok, although the moderator in question is well liked and admired, there was no reason to respond like that. As one other avatar put it, you are only giving that type of avatar what they want ... attention.
Also to purposely send a virus to someone can backfire in a big way. If that avatar figures out who sent it, legal action can be taken. If either party resides in the US, then the sender can be in big trouble, as the U.S. Justice Department takes a dim view on people who send viruses via the net.
If you don’t like what someone is doing, then send one and only one message to that effect. Cleary, and calmly explain what you feel the person is doing wrong. If that person flames back, ignore it and go on with your life. Those type of people are not worth your time or trouble.
Though if the person calmly and clearly wants an explanation of why you see faults in their behavior, then by all means enter in to an intelligent conversation with that party. But, and this is important, if even a small hint of flame appears, back out immediately.
There is an old saying, "When you argue with a fool, people may not be able to tell who the fool is." Never lower yourself, to a troll, flamer, etc.’s level. I’m not saying be snobbish or aloof, but not responding to that type of person on their level is the best response.
