1. What vehicle do you drive?

1950 Budd RDC, M-407

Oh! You mean my car!

1997 Hyundai Elantra

2. How long have you had it?

The Budd isn't mine, it belongs to the RR since 1987, IIRC. The Hyundai? Since April of '99 (bought used)

3. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle?

Twin Detroit Diesel 6-110's. Oh, the Hyundai. I guess it would be reliabilty and the ability to go where I point it (sometimes where 4x4's fear to tread. :=3 )

4. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle?

The 23M brakestand. Give me a 26B1 anytime. Oh, the Hyundai. CD player refuses to work most times. :={

5. If money were no object, what vehicle would you be driving right now?

Either a F7/9, E8/9 or a F40PH.

Oh, you mean a regular car. Then probably a van or something like that for working for the railroad. Otherwise I'm happy with the Hyundai.

It could've been worse. I could've typed in things about the Canal Moveable Bridge. ;=3

Trains around here...

...here as in Western Canada,I live within reasonable distance from a railway going out to a huge coal and container port. When going down to the tracks to see the trains going by you will see these most often.

Link to picture of engines most often seen here.

There is also the CN Extra east, I saw it two weeks ago down there. The interesting thing about this train is that its so long that the entire line has to be cleared before it leaves. This train is a container carrier thats just under 2 and a half miles long.

That looks a smidge different from 7000 (your icon) ... is it one of the F units? Wait... never mind, I think that is 7000... just... clean.

And, if money really was no option, wouldn't you rather have a PA-4, or better yet, put together your own PA-? with modern frame/chassis, trucks, with DC/AC traction, and where the steam gennie should be, a nice shiny CAT turning a HEP unit? Oh, and don't forget that yummy new V-16 2-51 producing a little over 3000 effective HP through the generator... *drool*
Ooohhh yeah.

Or, hell, you could go a little more practical and say an FA or something like that...

*shrugs*
Hope everything's going well down there...

Yep, it is the 7000. ;=3

I guess if I had the money, yes, then I would get one of the two, hell both, remaining PA's from Mexico. :=3

Buliding one from scratch wouldn't be the same. :=/

As things ae going as well as can be expected. Things are efinitly moving forward in many different areas at the rr. ;=3

Hope you & Andy are doing well.

You know... something I never quite did figure out... why don't you guys put an F on either end of the train? You can trainline the MU, can't you? That way you wouldn't have to have an RDC burning diesel as well...

Oh-- did he ever put the steps on 410?

The reason we don't normally put a F unit on each end is bescause you still need the Budd running for "hotel power" for the A/C. and the extra F unit would add to the fuel costs. Also with the Budd acting as cab control car on the south end we can platform the coach doors on the high level.

When were running a 4 car train (NYC 37, M-407 and the two green URHS coaches) then wedo put a F unit on each end. Part of the reason is duee to we only have on adapter MU cable that goes from the smaller RDC MU connector to the standard loco MU connector. Also it is easier just to couple everything together without "shuffling the deck".

As for the M-410, it is still "stepless" as he is now in litigation about the costs to repair it. A&H offered a sum of money that would not even cover the costs of the stainless. :=/

Oh! The other day I got a treat... I got to hear a newer 2-51 running... they make the damn oddest "warble" ... o.O

That's the best way I can explain the sound... Maybe it's the new Turbo's they're using? But at low rpm (idle) it warbles. (and blows smoke circles... much to my entertainment value) warble *puff* warble *puff* kinda... rahraHRAHRAH*puff* r..ra..rahraHRAHRAHRAH! *puff* They used an 8V one to blow the Mall's well head out (had a locomotive aircompressor on it's head, interestingly enough) Earlier this past week... god it was a beauty... all shiny and pretty. the "FM | ALCO" badge on it looks odd though. I ... hadn't expected it to be so big, is the really only thing I can say... Or so loud...
when the pressure in the well started to build up, and they throttled it up... there was the most satisfying combination of low pitch rumble, and high pitch turbo scream too... (but it still made the "tika-taka-tikatTING" noise that I've heard in every recording of alco engines both old and new at higher RPMs... Odd.
